“Priya - The Accessibility Warrior”, a comic book launched by Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Ministry of Education and Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India on 24th August, 2021. The comic book named “Priya -The Accessibility Warrior” is the outcome of collaborative efforts of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It provide glimpses into the world of a girl named Priya who met an accident and couldn’t walk, due to plastered leg,. The story depicts how she managed to participate in all activities at school, as the school has made efforts to become accessible. In the process Priya learnt the importance of the accessibility and therefore she takes the pledge of being the accessibility warrior.
The key message of the book is “Everyone Needs Accessibility, Accessibility Helps Everyone”. The comic book also consists of Nine activities which will facilitate learning more about the accessibility/concerns and its importance in our daily lifestyle. The National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes the promotion of Inclusiveness in the education structure of our nation, these kind of initiatives helps bring the awareness in the masses which will bring a widespread revolutionary change for the betterment and for building a bright future for our students.
“Priya- The Accessibility Warrior” comic book brings the message of need of accessibility and helps guiding the students in the right path and flourish the ideologies of being kind, helpful and solicitous towards everyone. The comic book is available on DIKSHA Portal, E-Pathshala, and NCERT website for everyone to access and read the comic book.
